Recently my family and I had the pleasure of staying in an award-winning, RIBA Architect designed home, based in South Lanarkshire called The Longhouse. Since studying Interior Design with the OCA I am learning how to approach a space, how it makes me feel, noticing the technical details, the great design ideas and not so great ideas.
Completed in 2014, this eco house is a beautiful gem of a building. A large open plan living space contains comfortable sofas, a large dining table and chairs and a clean, modern high tech kitchen. A hallway leads off of the open plan living space to 2 double bedrooms, a bathroom, a hallway with access to the main front door and a utility room. Stairs also lead off the open plan living space to 2 more double bedrooms, and another bathroom. Plenty of artwork adorned the walls, which you could purchase if you wanted to. I loved the finishing touches with the quirky mirrors and reading books, plenty to enjoy and adore.
Three large windows frame the view of the rolling countryside while the exterior is clad in wood, with decking sweeping around the front and side of the building. We felt it was a special place to kick back and relax for a few days, in a great location only an hour from Edinburgh and Glasgow. With views for miles, I can understand why a property was built in this particular space, absolutely breathtaking, I would definitely return with my family, a winter break would be great to try out the underfloor heating!!
