This exercise was about practising drawing using different mediums. By practising with different materials, processes and techniques I will hopefully develop my own drawing style. Here are five drawings of the same objects, using different mediums.
All mediums are quite different, even the pastels. I have drawn with a biro before and like the dark definite lines you can create, using both blue and black ink adds texture. The soft pastels were fairly easy to use, blending and using different colours makes the objects much more interesting, I must spend a bit more time using this medium as I’m sure I can create softer edges. My next drawing is using oil pastels, I have never used this medium before and I was intrigued by how it would look by smudging two different colours together, really enjoyed trying this technique and will definitely spend some more time experimenting with different colours and lines to achieve different effects. Next I chose to use a highlighter pen, this medium was very different to use and I think definitely needed two different colours to bring the objects more character. You have only two choices of line thickness and so quite restricting. Lastly, I used black fine liners, I absolutely love the clean crisp line that a fine liner gives, adding shading completes the effect. Overall a very interesting exercise to carry out!
